Future proof Servicing

We started 75 years ago as a Belgian family business called Edwards Emballages. Since then, we have gained extensive experience in the industry. We have also become part of the international Smurfit Westrock network. This background places us in a unique market position.

    Birth of Edwards emballages

    Smurfit Westrock Drogenbos was founded in
    1947 by Family Langenaeken (a father with his two
    sons) as a packaging company named ‘Edwards
    Emballages’

  • 1988

    Key Key

    Acquisition by Wenthworthgroup

    ‘Edwards Emballages’ was sold to
    Wenthworthgroup in 1988. But to this very
    day, the Smurfit WestrockDrogenbos team
    has kept the close-knit atmosphere of a
    family business alive

  • 1995

    Chart-line Chart-line

    Edwards emballages become Kappa

    We were sold to Kappa Packaging Group in
    1995. Kappa group was a Netherlands-based
    company founded in 1974 and Europe’s largest
    manufacturer of corrugated and cardboard
    packaging

  • 1996

    Box Box

    From packaging to POS-displays

    The knowledge and budget that became
    available thanks to the merger with ‘Kappa
    Packaging group’ allowed ‘Kappa
    Drogenbos’ to focus all resources on
    making great POS-displays.

  • 2005

    Tools Tools

    Birth of smurfit Kappa

    In 2005 Jefferson Smurfit merged with Kappa
    Packaging to form Smurfit Kappa.

  • 2010

    The digital revolution

    Thanks to the digital revolution we have
    managed to greatly increase our output
    and quality with tighter timeframes.

    The last few years we’ve focused on market
    research and data analysis.This with the goal
    of better understanding what you, the
    customer, deem important. And to help you
    moving forward.

  • 2020

    Covid-19

    During the Covid-19 pandemic, Smurfit
    Kappa was deemed an ‘Essential
    Business’ in many of the countries in
    which we operate. We played a vital
    role in supplying packaging for critical
    supply chains such as food/drink,
    pharmaceuticals and medical
    equipment, that are needed by our
    customers and communities

  • 2023-2024

    Renovations

    In 2023 we’ve done a lot of
    renovations. A new EHBO space,
    charging stations for electric
    vehicles, cantine, rooftop above the
    factory, entrance hall, facade and
    offices.

    better and modern environment.

    Smurfit Kappa merges with Westrock

    Merger between Smurfit Kappa and Westrock to
    form Smurfit Westrock.
